December 24, 2009 News

The Annual Report and Financial Statements are now available online and features SPT highlights of 2008/09.

These include news of growth in requests for our Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) and Ring'n'Ride services to 442,677.

The report also marks delivery of the first of 21 new Adaptable Buses - to provide DRT and Ring'n'Ride services. The buses are smaller and more fuel efficient than normal with suspension that lowers to kerb level for improved accessibility.

Investment in the Subway to maintain, repair and improve services reached £7.5 million in the last financial year.

In January 2009, SPT launched a specially designed Subway train carriage decorated with a stunning image of Robert Burns. The vinyl-wrapped carriage commemorated the 250th anniversary of his birth and to join celebrations to mark Homecoming year.

Within 2008/09, SPT has developed new integrated bus contracts. By supplying the vehicles, SPT can control the specification to ensure passengers travel on modern, adaptable buses. The new contracts also offer considerable savings for the public purse.

In the first trial of its type in Scotland, SPT funded the conversion of two diesel-powered buses to diesel-electric hybrid technology. The initiative is part of SPT's objective of reducing CO2 emissions, fuel consumption and noise levels.

Join Rice became SPT's first ever Subway Poet in Residence - a post jointly funded by the Scottish Arts Council. John has delivered a host of poetry-led events at local schools, community centres and libraries.
