Public opinion is sought on proposed bus station improvements.

Consultation on bus station plan for Hamilton

March 11, 2010 10:00 UKNews

SPT, in partnership with South Lanarkshire Council, will showcase planned improvements to Hamilton Bus Station during a two-day public information event next week.

SPT staff, along with council officials, will be on hand to answer questions on the project at our Hamilton Travel Centre on Brandon Street.

Members of the public can find out about the multi-million pound makeover by coming along any time between 4pm and 8pm on Monday, 15th March and between 8am and 2pm on Tuesday, 16th March.

The information days will mark the start of a 12-week period of public consultation prior to the submission of planning application. The results will help shape the detailed design of new facilities.

About 84,000 journeys are made from Hamilton Bus Station every week. Passengers can look forward to more modern facilities as well as improved links to the nearby rail station and taxi services.

A new layout is proposed, with 14 stances for local bus services and three coach stances. A new ticket office, waiting room and toilets will be the centre of the new-look station.

Covered walkways will also link the building to bus and coach stances and to the railway station and taxi rank. Waiting areas will be enclosed and fitted with automatic doors, while electronic monitors showing bus departure and arrival times will be installed at each stance.

Temporary bus stance facilities will be created to ensure bus services continue to operate normally throughout the construction period.
