Students and staff benefit from new travel information point at Glasgow Caledonian University.
SPT helps university on the road to eco-award
February 4, 2010 14:37 UKNewsStudents at Glasgow Caledonian University will benefit from a new travel information carousel supplied by SPT.
The display unit - which gives information on a range of bus, rail and ferry services - was donated to the University by SPT's Buchanan Bus Station.
This came about after discussions between our Travel Plan Officer Clare Strain and University officials.
Clare has been advising Glasgow Caledonian staff on how to implement a range of green travel measures such as JourneyShare, travel planning and salary sacrifice ticketing schemes for public transport.
The University has already achieved bronze Eco Campus status and hopes to soon progress to silver award level through working with SPT.
Following her meetings with University staff Clare went back to SPT to see if we could do anything to increase the amount of travel information available on campus.
Her colleagues at Buchanan Bus Station (BBS) were happy to help by offering the information carousel free of charge. This will be regularly stocked with travel leaflets by SPT.
Clare Strain said: "This is an excellent example of how SPT works in partnership with other organisations to come up with transport solutions.
"We hope students will find the carousel useful when travelling to University or for leisure; and that this in turn helps Glasgow Caledonian achieve its silver Eco Campus award."
Therese Fraser, Head of Campus Services at the University, added: "Having the travel carousel on campus is an excellent way of promoting and enhancing our sustainability agenda and reducing our carbon footprint.
"We have already achieved Bronze EcoCampus status and hope that by encouraging students and staff to use sustainable methods of travel it will soon progress to the Silver award."
