SPT re-instates bus service
Passengers have welcomed a re-instated bus service between Kirkintilloch and Twechar which is being funded by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.
From Sunday (8 October), Service 327 will operate an hourly evening service every day via Hillhead and Waterside. The route is being operated by Henderson Travel using a low-floor bus which makes it fully accessible to wheelchair users.
Welcoming the re-instated service, Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East MP Rosemary McKenna said: "The people of Twechar, along with Councillor Alan Moir and I, have fought long and hard to have an evening timetabled bus service reinstated. That hard work has paid off and the people of Twechar now have a service to Kirkintilloch that they can rely on, so long as people make use of it."
"SPT's involvement is welcomed, particularly when they face continual demands on their budget from all areas of Strathclyde as a result of private bus companies reducing or removing services for commercial reasons. SPT attended the public meeting organised by Councillor Moir and I after the previous service was scrapped and I am delighted they have now delivered on their promise."
East Harestanes and Twechar Alan Moir added: "The campaign to reinstate a timetabled service between Twechar and Kirkintilloch in the evenings is well documented, so it goes without saying that Rosemary McKenna MP and I are pleased that we have been able to convince a review of bus services in the evening period."
The re-instated service will operate from around 6pm to around 11pm every night.
In addition, SPT has agreed an improvement to the existing Service 344 which operates between Croy Station and Kilsyth. From Monday, all evening and Sunday journeys will run a revised route to provide greater coverage within Twechar for those travelling to Croy Station.
Cllr Moir added, "The improvement to the existing service to Croy Station is warmly welcomed, ensuring that people from both sides of Twechar will now not have to walk far to use this service."
