SPT joins up journeys to Womens 10k Race

Subway opening earlier for runners

SPT has made special arrangements for competitors making their way to Nithsdale Road for the start of the Women's 10k Race on Sunday 13 May 2007.

SPT is offering free travel on the Subway, free parking at Shields Road plus bus transfers to and from the race for runners and companions. The Subway system will open at 8.00am, two hours earlier than usual for a Sunday morning, to join up journeys to the Womens 10k race.

Special race shuttle bus services will run from two pick up points in Glasgow - Cochrane Street, just off George Square, and Shields Road Subway station - to take runners to the race start on Nithsdale Road. The race shuttle buses will return runners from the finish on Mosspark Boulevard to the original pick up points.

These shuttle buses will operate every 10 minutes from both pick up points starting at 7.30am until 9.30am. They will be parked at the finish for return journeys from 11am. The last bus will leave the finish at 1.00pm.

Competitors have the option of free parking at SPT's 800 space car park at Shields Road and using the special race shuttle bus to get to the start line. Parking spaces will be on a first-come first-served basis and extra staff will be on hand to ensure arrangements work smoothly.

SPT's Assistant Chief Executive Gordon Maclennan, said: "If we are to encourage people to use public transport more, then we need to provide greater choice at the times they want to travel.

"At SPT we're working hard respond to the city's travel needs and with the Subway system being at the heart of Glasgow's transport network, I hope runners take up the free travel and parking we're offering on race day."
