SPT hosts European Subway conference
Transport professionals visit SPT Subway
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is hosting a conference which will be attended by some of Europe’s top public transport professionals.
Delegates from the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) will spend Thursday and Friday (8 and 9 November) in Glasgow as SPT hosts the 50th meeting of the Fixed Installations sub-committee.
During the two-day seminar, the delegates – from the Metropolitan Railways Division of the UITP - will discuss research findings of ongoing studies covering life cycle costs of stations and equipment, certification of new constructions, management of spare parts, safe intelligent systems on rail infrastructures and ventilation in metro stations.
SPT’s Director of Subway Operations, David Wallace, said, “This conference brings together transport experts from across Europe. It’s an excellent chance for us all to learn from each other’s knowledge and discuss the transport issues we face. It’s also a great opportunity for us to promote our Subway and learn from some of the world’s other underground systems.”
The delegates attending the conference will be from as far afield as Barcelona, Rome, Milan, Paris, London, Hong Kong, Hamburg, Berlin, Lisbon, Athens, Brussels and Vienna.
The Metropolitan Railways Division is the UITP members' forum for metropolitan railway operators, for professional discussions on all issues regarding the planning, financing, construction, operation and management of metropolitan railway systems. It is the advocate of improving urban mobility and seamlessness through the provision of metropolitan railway systems.
