Glasgow Subway set to break 14 million journeys
New figures show that almost 900,000 more passenger journeys were made via the Glasgow Subway in the past 12 months.
If the current trend continues, predicted journeys on the Subway will breach 14 million for the first time in seven years in the New Year.
Research commissioned by SPT (Strathclyde Partnership for Transport) in 2006, which looked at patterns of use of the Subway, also showed that a high percentage of travellers believe the service to be good and 61.2% said it represented value for money.
Many passengers would also like to see longer Subway opening hours available in future.
SPT Chairman Alistair Watson expressed delight at the figures.
He said: "14 million passenger journeys is a fantastic vote of confidence in Glasgow’s Subway. These figures highlight the fact that the Underground plays a major role in joining up journeys.
"Despite the age of the Subway and the fact that it needs continued investment and refurbishment, passengers still value the service and are increasingly choosing to use the Underground as their preferred choice of transport."
