Festival programme is just the ticket
The Glasgow Subway Festival has proved to be a big hit, with people of all ages enjoying a packed programme of events.
Stations were buzzing on Saturday as passengers enjoyed a festival which was the first of its kind on the underground rail network.
All ages were catered for as musicians, dancers, poets, comics, clowns and even a barber put on shows. Click here for more images from the festival (opens a new window).
Some of the stations hosted a full day of events with special themes which reflected their location and attractions in their area.
There was a strong fashion sense at Buchanan Street Station in the heart of one of the UK’s top cities for shoppers and St Enoch also sported a diverse range of exhibitions, including a display of acrobatics.
Hip-hop was much in evidence at Kelvinbridge, with its large student population and Kinning Park proved a big draw for families, with entertainers and craft tents just outside the station.
Science was a big theme at Cessnock, which is the nearest Subway station to the Glasgow Science Centre and Cowcaddens, which is close to Glasgow Film Theatre, was another entertainment hub.
However, the entertainment was not confined to the stations. Subway carriages became moving venues as roving performers brought a new dimension to the Subway journey.

The Subway Festival programme became a ‘must-read’ item as passengers checked out the list of activities.
Subway staff have worked hard to make the festival a success and many, dressed in festival T-shirts, joined in the fun.
The festival proved a big draw for Andy Kirkham, from Partick, his wife Olwen and son Oliver.
Mr Kirkham said: “We came along to entertain our four-year-old son Oliver because he loves travelling on the underground and we thought it would be a fun day.
“I normally use the main line trains for work but the underground is great and the Discovery tickets are very handy for us.
The family enjoyed a wide range of events at Kinning Park, with Mrs Kirkham even taking to a Penny Farthing under the careful guidance of entertainer Angus McLaugh.
The Subway Festival has been a team effort by SPT, leading marketing agency DADA and The Scottish Sun newspaper.
It continues on Sunday with even more entertainment on offer.
Full details of what is on offer are available on this leaflet (pdf format, opens a new window).
