Free buses for UEFA football fans

SPT to provide transport to Ibrox

Free UEFA bus serviceStrathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is providing free buses for football fans preparing to watch the UEFA Cup Final at Ibrox on Wednesday (14 May).

Although the match itself - between Rangers and Zenit St Petersburg - takes place in Manchester, thousands of fans are expected to watch live coverage on giant screens at Ibrox.

To help fans with their journey, SPT is providing free buses from Buchanan bus station to Ibrox Stadium. The fleet of buses will leave the bus station at regular intervals between 5.30pm and 7.30pm and the journey is expected to take around 20minutes. The drop-off point will be Edmiston Drive, near Ibrox. Entry to the stadium and seats on the buses are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

At the end of the match, the buses will depart from Edmiston Drive at regular intervals between 9.45pm and 11pm. The drop-off points for the return journey will be all bus stops in Bothwell Street, in Hope Street before West George Street, in Hope Street at Watt Brothers and in Killermont Street outside Buchanan bus station.

Chair of SPT, Councillor Alistair Watson said: "It's a great opportunity for Scottish football and will be an exciting night for Rangers fans. Many of them will be able to watch the match at Ibrox and we're more than happy to provide transport to help them get there. This follows a successful venture last year when around 8,000 fans used SPT's free buses to get to the UEFA Cup Final at Hampden.

"We want to encourage more people to use public transport so rather than taking the car, we hope fans will use these bus services or the SPT Subway on their way to watch the big match."
