The £372,000 project provides space for more cars and is fitted with an upgraded CCTV system.

The project, which cost £372,000, provides a new station facility complete with realigned entrance roads.

The scheme involved laying new, properly drained foundations across the whole area, 18 extra spaces, plus the resurfacing and reconfiguring of the existing spaces.

New lighting was installed and landscaping work was done to enhance the facility.

The station’s CCTV system has been extended and cameras now cover the whole car park, providing passenger reassurance.

SPT grant funded the car park upgrade in response to customer demand and First ScotRail managed the project on SPT’s behalf, appointing contractor George Leslie Ltd to undertake the work.

SPT Chair Councillor Alistair Watson (pictured right) said: "One of SPT’s key policies is to encourage greater use of public transport to help reduce levels of traffic congestion.

'Convenient place'

"Easterhouse now has an excellent local park and ride facility and I’m confident this will be a major benefit to the people in the east end of Glasgow.

“They’ve now got a safe, secure and convenient place to park their cars and I hope it will encourage more people to travel by public transport."

First ScotRail Project Manager Tom Harvey (pictured left) said all of the work was carried out without closing the car park.

He said: "The expansion supports the growing demand for rail travel and will encourage more people to use public transport.

"It is also good news for the environment and will reduce congestion by increasing the park and ride capacity."
