Speaking on the first anniversary of the terror attack at Glasgow Airport, Ron Culley pointed to the increased security measures introduced by SPT.

He said the introduction of British Transport Police officers to the Subway and enhanced surveillance at SPT sites were among the measures introduced in the past year.

Mr Culley, who was recently appointed to the board of British Transport Police, said: "There's little doubt that the introduction of BTP officers has been of great assistance.

"Last week I met with the Chief Constable of Strathclyde Police, Steve House, to discuss extending these measures on the street to improve safety and security on bus."

Speaking on STV, Mr Culley said: "Terrorist organisations are actually looking at soft targets just now, they're not just looking at things like the Underground.

"They're looking at retail outlets and sporting occasions but we are quite aware that transport facilities are an area where we have to be vigilant."

SPT has been upgrading the CCTV system across the Subway stations.

We are introducing a £2.35m state-of-the-art digital radio system to the network to improve communication with staff and emergency services.

Large planters are now at entrances to all stations to act as deterrents for anyone attempting to drive in.

In addition to these measures, a new security manager is working alongside our head of security and staff have been trained to be vigilant and report anything suspicious.
