Subway station investment announced
SPT has announced plans for major improvements to Buchanan Street Subway station's moving walkways.
The 'autowalks' will have energy-saving devices and state-of-the-art safety features added to help extend their life span and make them greener, cleaner and safer to use.
SPT members have agreed to award a contract worth £341,608 to Kone Escalators Ltd.
Work will be delivered in two stages - the first taking 12-14 weeks before returning the walkways to passenger use by mid-November, and the second lasting 24 weeks from April to September 2009.
The walkways will be back in service for the busy Christmas and New Year period.
SPT’s Director of Subway Operations, David Wallace, said: "This work is part of the ongoing programme of Subway safety improvements we are making.
"We hope the work will not cause too much of an inconvenience but the improvements are essential to maintain the life of the Subway autowalks and deliver a better service for our customers in the longer term."
