Crossrail
SPT supports Crossrail Glasgow - the ‘missing link’ in Scotland’s national rail network. The project is designed to close the gap across the river Clyde, allowing for a host of new rail connections to be made across Strathclyde and the rest of the country.
SPT's proposals for Crossrail were not included in the Scottish Government's Strategic Transport Projects Review (STPR). Instead the STPR contained significant elements of our Crossrail scheme in the plans to develop rail connections across the Glasgow conurbation. These include a possible light rail metro system and new stations in the centre of the city. These long term plans are ambitious and were costed within the STPR at £1.5bn to £3bn.
SPT's Crossrail is affordable, deliverable and offers value for money. It would connect Ayr directly with Edinburgh in the first phase. Developments beyond that would link the south west of Scotland with the east and north east. We believe Crossrail still remains the "missing link" in Scotland's rail network.
