Park and Ride
SPT plans to increase the number of Park and Ride sites across the Strathclyde area.
Park and ride is a key plank in SPT's modal shift objective, relieving local traffic congestion and encouraging people out of their cars and on to public transport. Some of our recent projects include:
Alexandria (34 spaces)
Work completed in March 2011 - on time and within budget.
Barrhead (27 spaces)
Work completed in March 2011 - on time and within budget.
Bellshill (150 spaces)
Review of tenders by North Lanarkshire Council complete. Work expected to begin June 2011 for completion date of September 2011.
Coatbridge Sunnyside (additional 48 spaces)
Site works completed 3 June 2011 - on time and within budget.
Croy
The award-winning 700-space Park and Ride facility at Croy railway station is now complete and was opened by Scottish Transport Minister Keith Brown MSP and Cllr Mark Griffen in February 2011. It is worth noting that the project was brought in with an impressive saving of around £200k against approved budget.
Along with the station's existing 215 space car park, Croy is now Scotland's largest rail Park and Ride.
Croy is the first rail Park and Ride car park to achieve the prestigious Park Mark Award from Strathclyde Police for secure parking from day one.
More recently, the Croy Park and Ride project won the prestigious award for Best Transport Integration at the Scottish Transport Awards in June 2011 - a great achievement for all those involved.
Greenock corridor
A study is underway to investigate potential for expansion in the corridor in and around Greenock.
Hampden
SPT is supplying funding in collaboration with Glasgow City Council for improved bus facilities including bus-based park and ride facilities at Hampden Stadium. Preparatory works are being undertaken in 2011.

Discussions between North Lanarkshire Council and the existing landowner are ongoing, with a target to commence work on site later in 2011.
Kilmarnock, Kilmaurs and Dunlop
A study is underway to investigate potential expansion at these three locations on the rail line to Kilmarnock.
Monkton (initially 250 spaces)
Detailed planning permission was granted on 16 June 2011. South Ayrshire Council is currently concluding land acquisition with the existing landowner; detailed design is now in its final stages. Procurement to be completed in 2011.
Motherwell
SPT is working in Partnership with North Lanarkshire Council in 2011 to examine expansion options around Motherwell Station.
Shotts
SPT is examining the feasibility and design for expansion at Shotts station to support the increasing demand in this location.
Stewarton (70 spaces)
Work started 16 May 2011 for expected completion date of September 2011.
Future projects
SPT will continue to examine park and ride across the region. We have a significant list of other schemes in the early stages of development, and will examine the potential sites identified in STPR at M8 locations such as Bargeddie and St James Candren.
