SPT leads the way in Travel Planning for businesses
SPT's fifth annual Travel Planning Seminar was a resounding success.
The event, held at Glasgow's Teacher Building on 18 February 2010, was attended by more than 80 representatives of businesses and organisations.
It provided delegates with practical advice and information, as well as innovative ideas to help promote, develop and implement Travel Plan measures in such a way that will motivate staff and encourage participation.
Delegate Emma Thomson of South Ayrshire Council said: "SPT has brought together lots of different organisations of different sizes. The seminar is a great way to spread awareness of the different travel plan measures and share our good ideas."
Therese Fraser of Glasgow Caledonian University added: "The contacts and networking aspect is great for us. It was also good to learn about Traveline and we'd be interested in making their journey planner available through our website. There is an appetite for travel information at the university and it's really important for our carbon management plan."
Alan Simpson of Aberdeen City Council said: "The workshops have been informative and fun. There have been some good examples of successful car sharing schemes and I've been inspired by those."
Georgina Evans of Maxim Office Park said: "I've come away with some great ideas on how to promote travel plans to the organisations at Eurocentral, where Maxim is based, and will feed these back to them."
Speakers included Stuart McNeill of Traveline Scotland, Paul Akehurst of SKM Enviros Consulting, Dr William Dove of NHS Fife, and Steve Beverley and Bruce Harley of Capital Shopping Centres.
Workshops were also available on topics such as staff travel surveys, increasing employee engagement in travel plans, cycle to work schemes and car sharing.
Chair of the seminar and SPT Director of Policy and Strategy Bruce Kiloh said: "SPT is proud to lead the way in travel planning practices for organisations, and particularly businesses. We hope the seminar has been enlightening and given our partners some practical ways to save money while reducing their carbon footprints."
The annual seminar is free of charge and is aimed at individuals involved in travel planning, marketing and transport from both the public and private sector. This includes representatives of local authorities, businesses, retail parks, shopping centres, universities, colleges and Health Boards.
